Nokia 803 featuring Symbian and better camera coming in May

If you haven’t heard that much about the Symbian powered Nokia phones lately there is a reason, Nokia went to the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 OS.  A rumor that hit the Web this week is showing that Nokia is not completely done with the Symbian software.  If fact, the company looks to be releasing a Symbian powered handset dubbed the Nokia 803.  Some sources are saying that the Nokia 803 will be the last Symbian device from the company.  Because the rumors have just started and only a simple drawing has been leaked, the stats are pretty hard to come by.

The same source that claimed this would be the last Symbian handset said that it will come with a 4-inch AMOLED touch screen display, protected by Gorilla Glass and had the Nokia Belle user interface already installed.  The processor is likely to be in the 1GHz range with 512MB of RAM.  One of the other very noticeable specs will be the larger camera sensor that is already making headlines.  The camera will have better optical zoom and reportedly by 12MP making it one of the few larger phone cameras.
Most of the other specs are typical of handsets these days, including the touch screen diplay, auto focus on the camera, Bluetooth support, Wi-Fi connection support, microUSB for charging and more than likely an expandable memory card slot which should put the internal storage at 32GB.  Other reports show that the new Nokia 803 will have Near Field Communication, HDMI output and DLNA support.  The Symbian fans might have been a little bitter about Nokia’s decision to go with Windows Phone software, but this last hooray should appease them.  Later this month the Mobile World Congress will be held in Barcelona, but there is no word on whether the new 803 will be there.
The Nokia Symbian software has been around a while and was top shelf at the time, pretty much taking over the mobile industry until Apple and Google’s Android made their faces known to the world.  The Nokia 803 does not have a price point, but it will likely end up in the higher $200 range depending on the carrier it gets launched with.  The tentative release date looks to be some time in May of this year.
